Surviving to Thriving: Practical Strategies for Clinical Reasoning in School-Based OT Practice

School-based occupational therapy practitioners are often well prepared to provide intervention but may receive limited training in the clinical reasoning required for evaluations, service determination, goal development, progress monitoring, and educational relevance. This session explores practical strategies for moving beyond scores and deficits to make participation-focused decisions that support student access, participation, and progress.

Through case examples, data collection systems, work samples, and real-world applications, participants will learn how to interpret assessment findings, identify occupational barriers, develop meaningful goals, monitor progress, and make defensible service recommendations. Attendees will leave with practical tools and strategies that can be immediately applied in school-based practice.
