Welcome to guest blogger and OT Kelsie Kavadas, OTD,
OTR/L, PRPC
Are you an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant looking to expand your toolkit and better serve your aging clients? Join me,
Kelsie Kavadas, OTD, OTR/L, PRPC, for an engaging and informative webinar
designed specifically for generalist OT practitioners who want to enhance their
understanding of pelvic health.
I have worked in pelvic health for
a few years now, but as a brand-new practitioner I worked in a facility that
offered skilled nursing, assisted living, and independent living for aging
adults. I remember being tasked with treating dysfunctions of the bowel and
bladder and feeling very lost. I’d read research, google common questions, ask
other practitioners but there was no clear answer on what to do or how to help
these residents. Once I found my way to specializing in pelvic health, I knew I
wanted to give back to the setting where I first got my start.
Pelvic floor dysfunction is a
common yet often overlooked issue in older adults. Conditions like urinary
incontinence and urinary retention can significantly impact quality of life,
leading to decreased independence, social isolation, and even falls. As OT
practitioners, we know how these conditions impact our clients, these topics
are often difficult to discuss and so often swept to the wayside. This webinar
will equip you with the knowledge and practical strategies to address these
challenges through the unique lens of occupational therapy.
In this webinar we'll dive deep
into the most seen pelvic floor issues in older adults, such as urinary
incontinence and retention, and explore how these conditions affect daily life
and occupational performance. You’ll discover evidence-based interventions that
align with the holistic approach of occupational therapy. You'll learn how to
assess and treat pelvic floor dysfunctions using techniques that promote
independence and enhance your clients' quality of life. Gain practical tips and
tools you can immediately incorporate into your practice, from behavioral
modifications and bladder training to therapeutic exercises and environmental
adaptations.
This webinar is ideal for
generalist OT practitioners who want to expand their expertise and provide more
comprehensive care to their clients. It is my hope that by sharing this
valuable information, we as occupational therapy practitioners can continue to
promote independence and push the boundaries of our profession, because pelvic
health is an ADL.
