What mindfulness-based interventions are applicable to OT practice?

If you’ve ever asked yourself these questions, you should join this introductory level webinar focused on defining mindfulness and identifying appropriate mindfulness-based interventions in the adult rehabilitation.  Supported by the OTPF-4 as it describes the OT process to promote the health and well-being of individuals, mindfulness-based interventions are another tool in your toolbox to support a holistic approach to occupational engagement.

Dr. Sara Atkinson Lum, OTD, OTR/L, CBIS, CSRS
Aspire OT Instructor

Dr. Sara Lum, OTD, OTR/L, CBIS, CSRS is an Assistant Professor and UTC Occupational 
Therapy Coordinator of Fellowship Education in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist
through the Brain Injury Association of America and a Certified Stroke Rehabilitation Specialist from Neurorecovery Unlimited. Dr. Lum brings extensive clinical experience working with adults following various medical challenges including but not limited to
cardiopulmonary, oncologic, and neurological events across acute care and inpatient rehabilitation. Her most notable clinical experience was during her full-time clinical work as a Senior
Occupational Therapist at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago, IL. Her clinical work has primarily focused on supporting adults who have experienced an acquired brain injury with activities of daily living and regaining functional independence. Her community
collaborations with clinical partners have focused on the implementation of evidenced-based practice for traumatic brain injury care, collaboration with clinical teams for adoption of outcome measures, and mentoring novice practitioners for advanced practice areas.
Dr. Lum’s teaching, leadership, and research agenda center on clinical skill development and clinical reasoning for novice clinicians and the support of psychosocial needs of individuals through mindfulness. Additionally, she continues to investigate the unique needs of TBI survivors through clinical work and research endeavors. She teaches across the UTC OTD curriculum with a focus on adult rehabilitation, adult neurorehabilitation, advanced clinical practices, and the application of clinical screening and outcome measures. Her teaching emphasizes clinical reasoning, hands-on application, and preparing students to navigate real-world challenges
with confidence. As UTC Occupational Therapy Coordinator of Fellowship Education, she collaborates with clinical partners to support professional development in the acute and critical care settings through the development of curriculum for the OT advanced clinical practice area.
Outside of her academic role, Dr. Lum continues to engage in clinical practice by working part time at a local inpatient rehabilitation hospital. Dr. Lum enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children, baking, and taking walks!

In order to receive the certificate of completion, participants must meet ALL of the following criteria:
  • Payment of the course in full
  • Attend webinar in its entirety
  • Complete Attestation of Attendance
  • Pass the course exam with a score of 70% or greater
  • Complete the Post Course Evaluation
Please note that no credit or certificate will be issued unless all criteria is met.  Partial credit will not be issued.

Live Courses and Webinars
Learner cancellations: In the event that the learner requests to cancel or is unable to attend a course, a refund for the total paid for the course will be granted if Aspire OT is notified via email at info@aspireot.us within 10 business days prior to date of the scheduled course, minus a non-refundable registration fee of 25% of registration price.  If the learner provides notification of cancellation less then 10 business days prior to the scheduled course, the learner will be offered the opportunity to attend the same webinar on an alternate date or enrollment in the recorded on-demand version of that webinar, instead of a refund.  

No refunds will be issued after a course has been attended for more than 30 minutes.  Partial credit will not be issued.  

Provider cancellations: 
In the event of inclement weather or other event resulting in the inability for a live course to be provided within the scheduled time, learners will be offered an alternate date or a full refund for registration paid.
On-Demand web Courses 
Web courses will remain available to learners for 1 year. No refunds will be available for web courses that have been attended or viewed for greater than 30 minutes. In the event of a refund, the learner will be unenrolled in the course immediately upon issuance of a refund. No refunds will be issued for any course in which a certificate has been issued.
