The relationship between OTs and OTAs can be one of the distinct values of occupational therapy as it can enrich the OT process as the two work together to achieve the best outcomes for clients. Yet as OT practitioners juggle so many demands, it may seem daunting to just fulfill the requirements of occupational therapy supervision not to mention working to nurture the relationship.
This continuing education course will help OT practitioners gain a better understanding of the roles of the occupational therapy assistant and occupational therapist related to the supervisory relationship. The use of collaboration to build a better OTA/OT partnership will be discussed and examples for navigating the challenges associated with the OT/OTA relationship will be presented.
This course is targeted at occupational therapy assistants and occupational therapists.

Building a successful OTA/OT Partnership
Niccole and Kim developed a successful OTA/OT partnership that received national recognition in 2018 for their efforts in improving occupational therapy treatment for pain. Through their collaboration they have co-authored two continuing education articles published in OT Practice Magazine, "A Biopsychosocial Approach to Addressing Chronic Pain in Everyday Occupational Therapy Practice" and "Opioid Guidelines and Their Implications for Occupational Therapy", as well as the AOTA official document "OT's Role in Pan Management". They continue to successfully collaborate beyond the clinical and professional relationship and are the founding partners of Aspire OT.
