This suicide prevention training will equip occupational therapy practitioners to be able to recognize signs of suicidality, talk about suicidal ideation, and provide resources as needed. Due to the sensitive nature of the topic, the course is limited to 60 participants.

Admittance into the course will allowed up until 5 minutes after the indicated start time, but due to the integrity of the course no one will be admitted after that time.

Learning objectives
After completion of this occupational therapy continuing education course, participants will be able to:
  • Identify warning signs of suicide.
  • Ask a person if they are having thoughts of suicide.
  • Describe strategies to support a person's safety.
  • Explain how to connect a person to supportive resources.

Instructor bio
Kimberly Jessee, OTD, MS, OTR
TNOTA Guest Instructor

Kimberly Jessee, OTD, MS, OTR joined East Tennessee State University in July 2024 and currently serves as an Instructor of Occupational Therapy. Prior to joining academia, Dr. Jessee served as the Home-Based Primary Care Program Director for a VA Medical Center. Since 2018, her practice focus has been primarily geriatrics with a special interest in end-of-life care, aging in place, and home modifications. In addition to geriatrics, Dr. Jessee has worked in trauma, adult, pediatric and neonatal intensive care, outpatient orthopedics, and neurorehabilitation. Since 2020, Dr. Jessee has served as the Northeast District Chair for the Tennessee Occupational Therapy Association. Professional memberships include the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, the American Occupational Therapy Association and the Tennessee Occupational Therapy Association.

In order to receive the certificate of completion, participants must meet ALL of the following criteria:
  • Complete payment or TNOTA membership log in for course enrollment
  • Attend the live webinar for the full duration
  • Complete the Attendance Attestation exam with a 100% score
  • Pass the course exam with a score of 80% or greater
Please note that no credit or certificate will be issued unless all criteria is met.  Partial credit will not be issued.
