This continuing education course is designed to equip occupational therapy (OT) practitioners with the knowledge and tools necessary to comprehensively address the challenges presented by Alzheimer's disease and Dementia. Focused on integrating OT principles and frameworks, this presentation empowers learners to create and implement effective treatments tailored to individuals living with dementia and their care partners.

Comprehensive Understanding of Alzheimer's and Dementia: Participants will learn more about Alzheimer's disease and Dementia, gaining insights into the latest research and developments in the field. This foundational knowledge will serve as the basis for informed and targeted interventions.

Application of OT Principles and Frameworks: The course emphasizes the integration of OT principles and frameworks into dementia care. Aspire OT Instructor

Lisa Baxter Hong, OTD, is an Occupational Therapist with a specialty in dementia care for over 15 years. She completed her undergraduate and graduate work in Occupational Therapy at Idaho State University and received her Doctor of Occupational Therapy at Eastern Kentucky University.  She is a private practice owner in Eastern Idaho, doing outpatient therapy and community outreach . Lisa has served as adjunct faculty and community educator at Idaho State University, and works with University of Missouri in fieldwork education and other committees. She serves as the Legislative/Reimbursement Chair for the Idaho Occupational Therapy Association. As caregiver education is an important part of her professional life , Lisa works as a volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association as a board member and community educator. Lisa lives in Idaho Falls, Idaho with her husband Todd and loves to spend time with her children and grandchildren. In her spare time, Lisa enjoys archery, volleyball, and playing her oboe in a community ensemble.

Joanne Trammel, MS, OTR/L
Aspire OT Instructor

Joanne Trammel, MS, OTR/L is an occupational therapist with a specialty in dementia care for over 15 years. Joanne completed her entry-level Master’s Degree in OT at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has worked with the general adult population for over 30 years. Joanne developed her love for understanding the behaviors related to dementia and finding nonpharmacological interventions while working at a Geriatric Psychiatric facility. She brings that passion to her current job at Idaho State University where she is the founding director of the Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Dementia care is woven into the curriculum and Joanne also teaches caregivers in the community how to navigate the diagnosis of dementia through ISU’s Continuing Education/Workforce Training programs.  Joanne also works with the Alzheimer’s Association as a community educator and serves on a committee for the State of Idaho’s ADRD project through the Department of Health and Welfare. Joanne is married and has two children and one grandchild. She enjoys gardening, spending time with family and golf.

In order to receive the certificate of completion, participants must meet ALL of the following criteria:
  • Pay for course or be a Just for OT subscriber
  • View course videos in entirety
  • Pass the course exam with a score of 70% or greater
  • Complete the Post Course Evaluation
Please note that no credit or certificate will be issued unless all criteria is met.  Partial credit will not be issued.

Live Courses and Webinars
Learner cancellations: In the event that the learner requests to cancel or is unable to attend a course, a refund for the total paid for the course will be granted if Aspire OT is notified via email at info@aspireot.us within 10 business days prior to date of the scheduled course, minus a non-refundable registration fee of 25% of registration price.  If the learner provides notification of cancellation less then 10 business days prior to the scheduled course, the learner will be offered the opportunity to attend the same webinar on an alternate date or enrollment in the recorded on-demand version of that webinar, instead of a refund.  

No refunds will be issued after a course has been attended for more than 30 minutes.  Partial credit will not be issued.  

Provider cancellations: 
In the event of inclement weather or other event resulting in the inability for a live course to be provided within the scheduled time, learners will be offered an alternate date or a full refund for registration paid.
On-Demand web Courses 
Web courses will remain available to learners for 1 year. No refunds will be available for web courses that have been attended or viewed for greater than 30 minutes. In the event of a refund, the learner will be unenrolled in the course immediately upon issuance of a refund. No refunds will be issued for any course in which a certificate has been issued.
