Getting Comfortable with the Uncomfortable: Sex & OT" equips occupational therapy practitioners with practical frameworks and evidence-based approaches for assessing sexuality as a fundamental aspect of human occupation. Led by Dr. Karla Reese and Dr. Jenn Soros, this course teaches participants to apply the Occupational Therapy Sexual Assessment Framework (OTSAF) while building cultural humility using the 5Rs approach. Learn to assess sexual activity across multiple domains including ADLs, IADLs, education, work, leisure, and social participation.

Target Audience: Occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, occupational therapy students

This occupational therapy continuing education course uses the following instructional methods: visual aides (ie slides), discussion board, guided note taking, and learning, and practice opportunities.

Karla Reese is a clinical assistant professor and the doctoral capstone coordinator for the Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program at Cleveland State University. A practicing occupational therapist since 2003, she has extensive experience in skilled nursing, pediatric outpatient, and school-based settings. She holds a post-baccalaureate certificate in occupational therapy and a Master of Science in Health Sciences from Cleveland State University, and earned her Doctor of Health Sciences from Radford University in 2020, specializing in higher education and academia.
 
Dr. Reese serves as the DEIJAB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging) liaison for the Ohio Occupational Therapy Association. She is the co-host and co-producer of OT After Dark, an internationally recognized podcast focused on sexuality and intimacy for individuals with disabilities. Her scholarly work includes published book chapters and trade articles on sexuality and disability.

Jenn (JJ) Soros, PhD, OTR/L

Dr. Jenn Soros is an Assistant Professor in the Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program at Cleveland State University. A practicing occupational therapist since 2009, she has extensive experience in pediatric, school-based, and private practice settings. She holds a Master of Occupational Therapy from Cleveland State University and earned her PhD in Occupational Therapy from Nova Southeastern University in 2021.
Dr. Soros is the co-founder of OT After Dark LLC. Her scholarly work includes published articles in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and presentations focused on sexuality and intimacy in occupational therapy practice. Her research interests encompass sexualty and intimacy, social justice, healthcare literacy, and addressing implicit bias in healthcare outcomes.

  • Pass the course exam with a score of 70% or greater
  • Complete the Post Course Evaluation

Live Courses and Webinars
Learner cancellations: In the event that the learner requests to cancel or is unable to attend a course, a refund for the total paid for the course will be granted if Aspire OT is notified via email at info@aspireot.us within 10 business days prior to date of the scheduled course, minus a non-refundable registration fee of 25% of registration price.  If the learner provides notification of cancellation less then 10 business days prior to the scheduled course, the learner will be offered the opportunity to attend the same webinar on an alternate date or enrollment in the recorded on-demand version of that webinar, instead of a refund.  

No refunds will be issued after a course has been attended for more than 30 minutes.  Partial credit will not be issued.  

Provider cancellations: 
In the event of inclement weather or other event resulting in the inability for a live course to be provided within the scheduled time, learners will be offered an alternate date or a full refund for registration paid.
On-Demand web Courses 
Web courses will remain available to learners for 1 year. No refunds will be available for web courses that have been attended or viewed for greater than 30 minutes. In the event of a refund, the learner will be unenrolled in the course immediately upon issuance of a refund. No refunds will be issued for any course in which a certificate has been issued.
