Please Note: This is not a jurisprudence course. This course will address the AOTA Code of Ethics and meet the requirements for a 1 or 2 hour Ethics course focusing on the AOTA Code of Ethics.
Occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants and students face many ethical dilemmas in everyday practice. The AOTA 2025 Code of Ethics and other official documents provide guidance for OT practitioners, however it can sometimes feel overwhelming to navigate through the literature.
This course will review the AOTA 2025 Code of Ethics and highlight material from the Enforcement Procedures for the AOTA Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics and The American Occupational Therapy Association Advisory Opinion for the Ethics Commission: Cultural Competence and Ethical Practice.
In order to assist learners to better navigate ethical dilemmas in practice, a ethical decision making process will be presented for consideration.
